Overall, the Education Learning Centre is a significant asset to the Coquitlam School District, supporting educational excellence and community involvement.
In addition, a supplemental geotechnical assessment was conducted involving machine-augered testholes, asphalt coring, and Benkelman beaming, to provide comments and recommendations for road widening/rehabilitation, pavement structure, sidewalks, curbs, and utility service connections bordering the site on Winslow Avenue, Poirier Street, and South Laneway. Geotechnical consultation, field reviews, and materials testing (soil, asphalt, and concrete) were provided during construction.
Located in the Austin Heights neighborhood of southwest Coquitlam, the $32-million Education Learning Centre for Coquitlam School District was designed to replace the existing School Board office and consolidate various programs and departments onto one site. By bringing various programs and departments together onto one site, the center improves efficiency and accessibility for students, staff, and the community. The site is situated west of Winslow Centre and northwest of Como Lake Middle School, on an existing grass field east of Blue Mountain Park.
With a large reception area and lobby, the 3-storey, 4,822 sq.m. building is a mixture of office spaces and meeting rooms with an International Education component. The redevelopment of the site also includes retaining walls, utility service connections, parking, a fire access lane, and driveways. The electric vehicle charging stations and associated landscaping promote environmentally friendly practices.
