How is something that we build today going to hold up or be in 30-50 years from now?

July 11, 2024

This question comes up quite often. This is what we call ''service life''. It is easy to install materials for construction ''today'', and complete it till the cheque from the customer has been cashed. However, in a disposable world how do we make sure it will last?

Here is an example of a testing apparatus and process to accelerate the corrosion process of epoxy coated rebar that will be used for extremely high exposure to moisture and the exterior elements.

In most structures the most abundant building material is the concrete, and the steel. At the end of the day, nobody wants surprises. By testing everything prior to being used for construction, we all can plan more accurately and gain success.

These photos you see are from successfully tested epoxy coated rebars to simulate 30 years of high exposure for a completed hydro Dam project! Cool, eh?
